2023 Recap

Love Learning Music surpassed milestones last year!  Yet, it was a difficult year, with a financial crisis for the organization, it’s a miracle to see Love Learning Music here today and growing with strength. The inherent challenges of non-profit funding have pushed our team towards deeper determination and resiliency in the life-changing work we do.  The Love Learning Music programs have been thriving, thanks to our Program Director, Kaitlyn, an amazing team, wonderful partners, and passionate donors!  It’s an honor to be a part of such profound work for families in need.  Thank you for your role in this collective effort to educate, equip, and empower the whole person, regardless of age, ability, or socioeconomic status.

Love Learning Music By The Numbers

Here is a look at the positive impact of the Love Learning Music Family by the numbers:
Our teamwork makes their dreams work!  Thank you for being a part of the Love Learning Music community that is changing lives in a growing number of communities.

Program Director’s Update on Music Therapy:

The Love Learning Music Therapy Program served 319 people in 2023. Each one is a significant life story forever changed by the power of music therapy. Like Jeremiah, a boy who has been overcoming mental health struggles with the help of music therapy. He received his first guitar, and consistent care in 2023 thanks to the Love Learning Music Family. While Jeremiah’s therapy services have been paused since the holidays, we are committed to fundraising to cover the costs of Jeremiah’s music therapy on-going.
On March 2, 2023, Love Learning Music went to the TN State Capitol, passionately advocating for music therapy at Hill Day. This marked a significant milestone and a reaffirmation of our commitment to raising awareness and garnering support for integrating music therapy into diverse communities.
Love Learning Music demonstrated an inclusive approach through expanding our group programs. Our outreach spanned various settings, including music therapy sessions at the Metro Nashville Public Schools Extended Learning Program and Vacation Bible School at Chadwell Elementary School. Love Learning Music ventured into adult engagement with the Music Therapy Lyric Analysis program at the Nashville Public Library's main branch. Beyond these, we expanded our reach to Whitsitt Elementary School's Power Monday sessions, the enriching summer day camp hosted by Cavehouse Workshop, sensory sessions at Linebaugh Library in Murfreesboro, and Camp Ability, Special Kids' summer camp. Each program exemplified our dedication to making music therapy accessible to a diverse array of individuals, fostering a sense of community and well-being.
In the realm of individual sessions, Love Learning Music began initiating music therapy with older adults. This unique journey prompted a profound reflection on our mission statement. The resultant shift expanded our focus from exclusively working with youth to embracing individuals of all ages. This strategic change underscored Love Learning Music's commitment to providing inclusive and adaptive music therapy, recognizing the universal impact of music on human development.
However, 2023 brought unforeseen challenges, including a financial crisis for Love Learning Music. Undeterred by adversity, Love Learning Music responded with resilience and compassion. To ensure continuity in our mission, Love Learning Music introduced the LLM Community Support A Child program. This innovative initiative invites businesses, organizations, and compassionate individuals to contribute to the music therapy sessions of those needing financial assistance. The program serves as an inspiration, creating a network of community support that ensures families facing financial hardships can continue to access the enriching and healing power of music without the burden of financial concerns.
Love Learning Music's music therapy journey throughout 2023 encapsulates a dynamic blend of advocacy, inclusivity, resilience, and community support. Our commitment to music therapy resonates throughout our diverse programs, individual sessions, and innovative initiatives, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of music therapy for individuals of all ages and abilities.

Growing Programs, Changing Lives

The Love Learning Music Advanced Rock Band program has positively impacted 45 people in Middle Tennessee in 2023.  This program provides opportunities for youth to join a band and develop confidence, communication skills, goal setting and completion, emotional regulation, and practical skills for potential career paths.  As the first two semesters of this program have been very successful according to the parents of the children served, we are expanding this program to hopefully impact 40 more children in 2024!  Our vision is to facilitate internship opportunities for the youth who are ready for that step in life so they can safely discover potential careers.  Please stay tuned as we are praying for a large grant to fund this program and an increased number of volunteers.  Enjoy the video at the top of the newsletter for an inside look at the action.
The Summer of 2023 also saw new programs coming to life.  Love Learning Music partnered with amazing organizations last summer to provide specialized programs to educate, equip, and empower children with mental health struggles, lower-income families, children with special needs, people of all ages with disabilities, and children in marginalized communities.  Our summer partner programs included Move Inclusive Dance, Cavehouse Workshop, An Array of Charm Camps, Rocklife Youth Camp, Special Kids Camp, The Pavilion VBS at Chadwell Elementary School, MNPS Promising Scholars, and the Linebaugh Library Free Music Therapy for the Community.  The total number of children positively impacted by these programs was 725!
Love Learning Music started as an after-school program in 2012, with the official non-profit launch of the Love Learning Music afterschool program in 2017.  Over the years, thousands of children and families have experienced love and positive improvements in development through our after school programs.  Last year, The Love Learning Music Family shared love, education, and therapy with 298 children through our various education and therapy programs after school.  We couldn’t change lives the way we do without amazing partners, an incredible team of staff and volunteers, and our passionate donors.
